Double Cleansing & Why I Stopped Spending Money on Expensive Face Cleansers
If you saw my skin care cabinet which is full of various lotions and potions you would certainly know that I don’t have an issue spending money on good skin care. However the product I refuse to pay over the top for are face cleansers.
A good face cleanser should clean my face and not leave it feeling tight and uncomfortable. That’s it. That’s it’s whole job. Just get on, do the job and then go down the drain with all of the days dirt and makeup. Job well done.✔
What Is Double Cleansing?
I’m going to state the obvious here but for those who aren’t familiar with the term “double cleansing” it refers to cleansing your face twice when you remove your makeup.
An example of double cleansing would be removing your eye makeup first and then performing a second cleanse using a cream, oil, gel, lotion or balm to properly remove all the day’s dirt, makeup, spf, etc.
When Should You Double Cleanse?
Anytime you wear makeup. Anytime you wear SPF. If you haven’t worn makeup or spf one good cleanse at bedtime will do the trick.
Why Should You Double Cleanse?
Consider for a moment all that your skin goes through in a day. You may have applied serums, moisturizer, SPF, foundation, concealer, powder, liner, eye shadow, blush, bronzer, etc. Let’s not forgot about pollution and dirt that has built up over the day as well.
Double cleansing ensures you’re getting all the makeup, SPF and the days dirt off your face before you begin your night time skin care routine.
It goes without saying that if you double cleanse daily you’re probably going through cleansers very quickly.
Here are my 5 favourite face cleansers that I use regularly. Bonus is that these are relatively inexpensive and good value for money.
Let’s start with Loreal Age Perfect Anti-Fatigue Face Cleansing Lotion with Vitamin C. (Loreal, is it really necessary to have such a long name for a good but basic cleansing lotion?)🙄
I use this as first or second cleanse. It removes eye makeup as well! 👍
This cleanser has been a staple of mine and my mother for many years. It cleans well, doesn’t dry my face out and when I remove the cleanser with a face cloth (flannel) my skin just feels fresh and clean. What else could I ask for?
You can find Loreal Age Perfect Anti-Fatigue Face Cleansing Lotion here at Walmart. 200 ml for $11.27 (CAD)
The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser is so darn lovely and it checks off all the boxes for me. Used as a first or second cleanse.
As with the Loreal cleanser above this one does the job of cleaning my face without stripping it. After I have massaged the cleanser onto my face I remove the days dirt with a face cloth.
This particular cleanser also happens to smell heavenly. Not in an overpowering way. It has a very soft luxurious floral scent. It doesn’t bother me, infact I love it but if scents bothers you at all then maybe skip over this one.
The Body Shop often has promotions where I can buy 2 and get 1 free and when those promotions are on I stock up on this cleanser big time!
The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser can be found here. 250 ml for $19.00. (CAD)
Looking for a perfect first cleanse in your double cleansing routine? Try an oil cleanser!
A little goes a long way with the Hylamide High Efficiency Face Cleanser from Deciem. It’s an oil based cleanser that is ideal for a first or second cleanse.
I’m not actually a big fan of oil cleansers so loving this particular one was a bit of a surprise to me. But it works really well especially when I’m wearing waterproof mascara and/or heavier makeup.
You can find Hylamide High Efficiency Face Cleaner here. 120 ml for $21.00. CAD
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for normal to dry skin is a gel cleanser that is just does the job of cleaning your face so well. After using this cleanser your face feels clean and hydrated.
The day Canada finally brought CeraVe products to Shoppers Drugmart was a day to celebrate! A fabulous range of inexpensive skin care that’s worth a try if you haven’t done so already.
I use this gel cleanser as a second cleanse or as my morning cleanse. It’s ideal in the shower! An absolutely fabulous face cleanser that you really should try.
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser can be found here. 355 ml for $15.99. (CAD) or you can also find it Walmart for $14.97! (CAD) 😁
Irritated skin? Try Aloe Vera!
Another Body Shop Cleanser that I love is the Aloe Calming Cream Cleanser. I use this as a first or second cleanse.
There are those days when my skin is just not happy. I may be testing out new skin care or makeup and something has made my skin feel and look uncomfortable.
When this happens I reach for The Body Shop Aloe Calming Cream Cleanser.
One of the main and most important ingredients this cleanser has is Aloe gel. I love Aloe gel, believe it works wonders and use it regularly on my skin.
This particular cleanser does a great job of cleansing my face leaving it feeling clean and soft. It has no obvious scent and just feels calming on your skin.
As I mentioned above, whenever The Body Shop have their promotions on I stock up on their cleansers.
The Body Shop Aloe Vera Calming Cream Cleanser can be found here. 250 ml for $19.00. (CAD)
