I’ve worked with many makeup brands over the years and can you guess what the one thing is they have in common?
They target their products to a younger demographic.
In the past couple of years you may have noticed some sizeable beauty brands such as L’Oreal coming out with makeup lines called “Age Perfect” specifically for the Gex X and Baby Boomer demographic.
Here’s what I’ve noticed.
The L’Oreal Age Perfect makeup line is very similar to many of their other makeup lines. In some cases this line has some lighter colours and some lighter textures but overall, I didn’t noticed a big change in formulations.
Are these products really for older women or is it simply a way of marketing to a wider audience?
Is it just a sneaky way to include grown ups into the mix?
I’m calling bull—- on The L’Oreal Age Perfect makeup line and I’ll tell you why.
The way they have marketed this line is clever. They show pictures of older women wearing their makeup and we buy into it.
But is it really for older women? Is this formulation just for us older ladies? Could I not apply a product from another line and get a similar result?
In my opinion, yes I could.
Every product I’ve tested from this line I could get elsewhere and in some cases, get better results.
Products I’ve tested from the L’Oreal Age Perfect Makeup Line
– Cream eyeshadow (such a disappiointment, on the greasy side, does not stay put all day, creases)
– Radiant Serum Foundation (a BB cream would give the same results in my opinion)
– Satin Blush (I have many other blushes I can get the same results as I did with this one)
– Anti feathering lip liner (one of the worst packaging designs around, try another lip pencil with a waxy finish such as NYX to get the same result)
Key Take Away
Most brands are still and will continue to focus on the Millennial age range which is 26-41. Brands sell to the demographic that buy the most. Right now and into the foreseeable future that’s the Millennials.
We Gen X’ers and Boomers need to remember this when we choose products for ourselves. We may have the extra cash to splurge at this stage of our lives but we still aren’t the focus for most of the big brands.
Come on L’Oreal, do better for us.
The question I get asked a lot is this. “Is there any brands that are really good for the more mature woman?”
Yes, there are some. As with every brand, pick and choose wisely based on your skin texture and tone. Here’s are a few brands I recommend
